The News Producer crafts compelling newscasts and executes them from the control room on a daily basis. This person develops the day-to-day on-air look of their newscast and works together as a team with Anchors, Reporters, and other crew members to help attract the largest available audience.
Duties/Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Produce daily Newscast
- Conceptualize newscast rundown
- Collaborate with Executive Producer, field crews, and assignment desk to determine content of newscast
- Write scripts
- Research stories
- Pitch story ideas
- Participate in editorial meetings
- Preview material before air
- Work with reporters and directors on innovative production elements
- Incorporate and coordinate breaking news
- Work to constantly improve and evolve look and execution of newscasts
- Execute show from control room
- Meet all show timing requirements
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent training and/or experience
- Knowledge of TV News producing tools a plus (i.e. iNews, Avid)
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and work as a member of a team
- Must be results-oriented
- Ability to work in a creative, fast-paced environment
- Ability to make quick decisions without losing composure
